Hi friends,

I submitted OWP + FAM SPONSOHIP APP on 1st.Nov, I received AOR but nothing regarding on OWP. My visitor visa will be in 6 month the January,18th. I want to extend visitor visa online just in case if my OWP doesn't go well. I understand I have implied status. Do you know how? Thanks!

you have implied status because of the OWP application. it is normal to not hear anything about the OWP application, and you won't until they issue you the OWP. Expect it to take 4 months from your AOR date to get it. it's up to you if you want to apply for an extension " just in case", though if you sent your OWP application with your PR application, you do have implied status and it's not necessary.

Thanks for your quick reply. Yea, I understand it's not necessary but just want to play it safe.
I received my AOR on 24th.Nov, 2016, should I expect my open work permit around the end of Feb, 2017? Am I correct?

you want to go by the date listed in the AOR - the date CIC says they received your application, not necessarily the date you received the letter.

i'm not sure if i'm counting it right, but i think you would receive it at the end of March?

1 - Nov- Dec
2- Dec - Jan
3 - Jan - Feb
4 - Feb - March

oh, in that case, cic received application on 2nd.Nov, so it should be arrived around end of February or beginning of March. Thank you!

I'm glad I found this thread as I have a related question in mind. If in such a scenario, I am denied an open work permit and have also exceeded my 6 month stay, would I be required to leave Canada immediately? Since I wouldn't have applied for an extension I would have no status, right?

Hi coco,

from my understanding, if your open work permit is refused, you still have 90 days to restore your visitor status if you didn't extend your visitor visa.
