Hi, before I moved to Canada as a PR I was setting aside my salary in the form of bank deposits (no stocks, bonds etc.) - hence no capital gains.
On the day of landing I had my proof of funds from the banks. But the irony is that the customs officer waved his hand and asked only about the cash which I had only CAD 10k.
So the situation now is as follows:
  • I will be transferring my money from my bank account in my home country to Canada. I don't want to pay the second tax on it since those deposits are built after my income was taxed
  • From time to time I will be withdrawing cash from my cards and deposit it into my checking account as well
  • The only form I found so far that asked my about my previous income is "GST/HST credit application for individuals who become residents of Canada"
So I need your advice here: won't CRA come and ask me to pay tax on the money I deposited into my checking account? Will declaring my past income on the GST/HST form suffice or should I find other ways to declare my past income and all my deposits in my home country?

Please note, once again, I don't have stocks, bonds, real estate. Only bank deposits and money on my debit cards.
