Hello,

I want to determine my family size in order to apply for Parent's Permanent Residency by sponsoring them.

In my Family its me & my wife (2 people) we both are Canadian Permanent Residents. {I DON'T HAVE KIDS}.
I wanted to sponsor only my "MOM". and NOT my Father ( Due to Medical Reasons he cannot travel)

These being said I am sponsoring only my "MOM" (1 person). Hence, I want to determine my Family Size.

Here is the reference I found on CIC website:

How to calculate the family size?

1. yourself,
2. your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children, if applicable. See the “Definition of dependent child (types 1 and 2)”
Note: Children who meet the definition of a dependent child must be included in the calculation, even if you as a sponsor do not have custody nor provide child support.
3. the number of persons you are now sponsoring and all dependent family members of that person, whether or not they are accompanying.
4. Count the number of persons covered by other valid undertakings you have made or co-signed in the past. If you have a co-signer, count all persons covered by still valid undertakings made or co-signed by your co-signer.
5. Calculate the number of persons covered in steps 1 to 4. The total represents the family size

Here #3 is what making me curious to open this thread.
Does it really matter to include all dependent family members of the person who is being sponsored. In my case do I need to include my DAD as dependent of my MOM. ?
Where actually the Principal applicant is my "MOM" and she is dependent on my "DAD".

Your family size is 4. You have to include your father as a dependent even if he isn't planning on coming (you will list him as non-accompanying with your mother as the primary applicant). Note that your father will have to pass a medical as part of your mother's sponsorship process. If your father cannot pass the medical - your mother's PR will be refused as well. Both of them must pass the medical in order for your mother's PR visa to be issued.
