Hi, there

i am asking this question on behalf of my friend.

she wants to sponsor her mum to immigrate to Canada. her dad won't come this time. my friend is single now, but she has an adopted child outside Canada and hasn't sponsored the child yet.

in her case, does she need to include her adopted child when calculate family members. the number is 4 or 3?

Will her dad be asked to do medical examination when she sponsor her mother? if her dad doesn't pass medical exam, will that influence her dad's application?

thanks,

Rachel Huang

Yes - she will need to include her adopted child. So total number of family members will be 4.

Yes - her father will also have to pass the medical even though he isn't coming to Canada. If her father fails the medical exam her mother will be refused as well. They both have to pass the medical.

Yes family size of 4.

This means income of around $58K for the past 3 tax years to qualify.

Hi, does that mean, if I have 4 people in 2015 and I have a new born baby in 2016, my 2015 income need be calculated at 5 people?

Yes. The only family size that matters is the family size on date you submit the application. So if in 2018, the family size in 2018 will be the family size even for 3 previous tax years.
