Hi there!

From your experience, what are the common mistakes while applying for the LMIA?
for example: not posting in on JobBank etc.

Not reading the Form well

Double check the requirements for a particular noc ( Because some positions are exempted from advertising which is an advantage)

Mis-Calculating the salary with median wage of the province

Thank you prashanthbv, my NOC is 4211 (paralegal).
On the NOC website (http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/ProfileNocCode.aspx?val=4&val1=4211&val17=4211&val18=0&val19=0) it doesn't seem like there are any exemptions for this position.

Any other ideas?

We had to re-advertise because we didn't specify under financial category - which was another 6 week delay
Our forms got sent back because we didn't put N/A in a box - make sure they are all completed.

What exactly do you mean by financial category? I'm sorry, I'm not sure if that's "The Stream for Higher-Skilled Occupations — High-Wage Workers"?

You may wanna check here if your category is in this

http://www.esdc.gc.ca/eng/jobs/foreign_workers/variations.shtml

Like, my Noc is 5241 and it is advertising and recruitment exempted

To be honest I'm not entirely sure (I'm not high wage), we advertised as shown but we you have to differentiate yourself from the food industry even though it's plainly obvious in the job ad where you work as you have to put everything down -maybe we didn't put a tag on it so if you searched the internet for "financial" it would crop up. Either way we had to start again.

Thanks!

Do you know if the transition plan is ONLY for employers hiring for high wage positions?

It is for everyone

I just checked and I think you're wrong. It's only for high wage positions - http://www.canadavisa.com/labour-market-impact-assessment.html

As it says on the LMIA form "The transition plan is a mandatory recruitment for all employers applying to hire TFWs, and who are offering a wage that is at or above median wage"

because they say AND we can assume that both conditions have to be fulfilled in regards of completing the transition plan.

Is it truth though that low wage positions will be approved for 1 year only?

Yes, low wage positions are only given one year work permit. No transition plan needed, but I believe they have the right to ask during the process if they feel it's necessary.

Interesting. I wonder if there's a time limit on high wage positions. They're making it sooooo difficult now :(
