Hi All,

Currently I am holding valid close work permit (Ends by Jul 2019) from my employer for me and Temporary visitor visa for my dependents, but unfortunately my project is getting over by this month. Still my management is looking for other projects. Mean while I am thinking to apply or convert to open work permit. so that I can apply jobs with other employer. Please see the below questions and help me on this. Thanks.

1) I believe I can't convert my closed work permit to open work permit, but is there any possibilities?
2) If I can't convert it, can i apply open work permit when i am in closed work permit
3) IF yes, what is the process and how long it will take?

Please help me on this

Regards,
Chandra

Based on the information you have provided, you do not qualify for an open work permit. To change employers, your new employer will first have to obtain an approved LMIA, you will then be able to apply for a new closed work permit tied to your new employer.

To qualify for an open work permit you must meet very specific requirements such as: having a spouse who is here on a study permit as an international student and is studying full time, having a spouse who is here on a closed work permit and is working in a NOC A/B/0 job, you've applied for PR through an economic immigration program and your application has been accepted as IRCC.
