Hello Everyone,

Good day.

I just want to ask some of questions that you might help me what to do. I am already here in Canada, studying in Niagara College. And got married before my visa was released. And I still need to update my Marital status to Married, since I applied for student as Single. And my husband wants to stay with me here in Canada and settle down here in Canada.

1. How can he apply for dependent status instead of visitor visa?
2. Can he stay while I am on my post grad work permit?
3. If I am done with my 2nd course, can he study PSW program in case he will cannot stay if I am on my post grad work permit?
4. If he applied for visitor visa, can he apply here in Canada to study PSW program?

Hoping for your feedback and best advise. Thank you. :)

Just what I know:
When you are a student (full-time with valid study permit), he can apply for an open work permit (OWP) to stay with you and he can also work.

When you are on PGWP, he can get OWP if you got a job with code 0, A, or B. I'm not sure which status he should use to stay during the period your study permit gets invalid (it becomes invalid as soon as you finish your study). But at least he can apply for a visitor visa.

Neither OWP or visitor visa would allow him to study in Canada. He needs a study permit to register in any program, except for those non-degree programs less than 6-month long. This type of non-degree programs can be registered using a visitor's visa. BTW, he can hold a study permit and a OWP, or visitor's visa at the same time.

Hope this info helps!
