Ok so we're in the process of FSWP and I think it will still take time until everything is finished. Thing is, after we acquire the PR status, we don't know how much time we have to make the move to Canada.

We need to cancel a lot of contracts here (Europe) and our apartment... Of course we can not proactively do this if we don't acquire the PR because we'd be homeless then :)

How do people handle this in reality? Is there time pressure after acquiring the PR status?

Thanks a lot!

I believe the COPR validity is usually one year from the date of the medical examination.

But keep in mind if time is really tight, you can fly to Canada, do a 'soft landing' (procedures to finalize the PR status), and leave / return to where you're living, and then move permanently later. Limitation there is just that time after the date you become a PR (date of soft landing) abroad means you need to be aware of the residency obligation (two years minimum in five years, on a rolling basis, from date of becoming a PR. If you're only out of Canada while you wind up your affairs, say six months before returning on 'move', not an issue. Problems potentially arise for those that do soft landing and then don't move to Canada to reside before a few years or more have passed.

I'm purposefully not going into excess detail now. You'll need to get your PR card, either remain in Canada until you get the card, or have an address to which it will be posted (and then you arrange to have the card sent abroad to you). All manageable usually.
