Just to give us newcomers an idea...

In which area do you live
How many are you in your household
Rent
Groceries
Phone
Internet
Electricity (I believe "hydro" would be more appropriate :) )
Transportation (gas and/or public transit)
Other things...

Hydro either refers to Water Bill or Power from a dam. Where I live, we have neither.

Others to include:
Cable
Renter's/Home Owner's Insurance
Car Insurance
Water bill
Sewer bill
Property Taxes

***We don't own a car. No point spending the money given that we live right downtown and it takes forever to find parking / get through traffic. We rent a car (Zip car for a few hours or $40 at Budget for 24 hours) if we need something big from Home Despot or elsewhere.

OMG, I find this thread so helpful in preparing for my new life (we are in the process of immigrating, my canadian husband is my sponsor). No matter how much I ask him about this kind of stuff, he can't tell me everything I want to know (men, eh? :-D).

Thanks a lot to all of those responding to this thread, esspecially those in the GTA :)

There's something wrong with this picture. This guy doesn't even own a house, but pays $450 per month for a car that is most likely now worthless. Live within your means. Sometimes people from third world countries forget where they are coming from.
LOL

Was I supposed to draw a Canadian dream in front of you here? I follow what I dream of. Have you ever thought anything outside the box? Besides the topic starter has just wanted info, not investment advice. Moreover, I came here at 19 as an Int'l student with no pre-plan to become PR.

Re: the bold text that I took seriously. I come from Bangladesh and hence my national flag is all rising and shining with my name on your left. If I forgot that, I would hide it like "some people from *** 1st world countries". And since I'm from so-called 3rd world country, I'm not supposed to waste my *** money in wherever I want?

Kingkong, you keep mocking people from 3rd world countries, and yet have nothing to show for your claimed first world upbringing (although you refuse to disclose where you are from). In effect, the people that you are looking down on are all outperforming you, and living a better life than you. Perhaps you should stop focusing on where others are from, and start trying to improve where you are at right now.
