hello all,

I am currently residing in Canada on a work permit, My wife who is a Canadian citizen is now going to sponsor me for permanent residency.

I am not sure if we have to fill out the permanent resident application found at: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/spouse.asp

or

the sponsorship application found at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

or both?

Can anyone confirm which one we will need to to fill out in regards to this please?

p.s. i am a US Citizen working in Canada on a work permit at this time, and am looking to do the inland application,

thank you

You are going to use the first link for spousal sponsorship. There are 2 parts of the application. Sponsor (your wife) and Principal applicant (you). The Part 3 is special directions depending on your region (US).

OK thank you for that, so just to confirm:

I will fill out the following forms and ignore the other link right?

This application includes the following items:

Instruction Guide [IMM 5289]
> also in PDF format PDF, 465 KB
In-Canada Application for Permanent Residence and Schedule 1 – Background/Declaration [IMM 5002 and IMM 5002 Schedule 1] PDF, 426 KB
Application to Sponsor and Undertaking [IMM 1344A] PDF, 346 KB
Sponsorship Agreement [IMM 1344B] PDF, 39 KB
Sponsorship Evaluation [IMM 5481] PDF, 110 KB
Spouse/Common-law Partner Questionnaire [IMM 5285] PDF, 112 KB
Use of a Representative [IMM 5476] PDF, 55 KB
Medical Report Section A — EDE/EFE [IMM 1017 SCL] PDF, 98 KB
Document Checklist [IMM 5443] PDF, 79 KB

Actually that is not quite true. The first link is to an INLAND application, meaning that your application will be processed in Canada. The 2nd link is for an OUTLAND application, i.e. your application will be processed in the U.S. Outland applications are typically much faster than inland. There are many discussions on this board about the pros and cons of both so you should read through that before deciding to do an inland application. Just because you are here in Canada does not mean that you have to file an inland application. You still have the right to file an outland application.
