Headed to northern ON. Woot for small towns and rural areas! :D Yep, I'm country, and proud of it, LOL. Oddly enough, my husband is a city boy (Scarborough born and raised), but he's perfectly happy in his small town. For doses of the city, he visits Toronto every so often, goes to his favourite Jamaican restaurant for oxtail and rice and peas.

Lemondrop, I see you liking beef patties, LOL, nice! I live within walking distance of a couple of the larger patty chains here in Kingston, and I do believe one of them is represented in Scarborough!

I'm in Ontario and sponsoring my husband from the Netherlands (Marco2011)... !!

I'll be living in the Scarborough area as well! My parents still live in the same house I grew up in. We'll be living with them until we secure jobs and settled in....oh my gosh, I can't wait! Miss the Jamaican beef patties so bad. There use to be one Carribean food store on Lawrence/Kennedy that had the best Jamaican patties w/ cocoa bun...and now they shut down not too long ago...so dissappointed but my sister said there is another good place she's found. I think it's about 12 or 13% taxes now...at least it's not 15% like it was when I last lived there in 1999. The last time I was there was 2 and half years ago. Before that we would visit practically every year. Toronto always has new development everytime I go back...they are building a huge aquarium downtown by the CN Tower that will be completed in 2014 I believe complete w/Killer whales, dolphins i think. My husband really likes Toronto as well...he really wants to live in a big city now.

@ Lemon, I think tax is 12% on food, and 13.5% on everything, I cant remember...I am sure you can find beef patties anywhere here in Scarborough...West Indians are very strong majority out here lol

@ Charlie, we have tastee n Juici beef, but they come in frozen boxes, and we dont get cheese patty...The one your husband maybe thinking of is tastees but it is not the same as the chain in Jamaica unfortunatly :( Nothing and I mean NOTHING compare to a REAL tastees beef n cheese mmmmmmmm LOL

Lemon, there is a shop on Eglington, not sure of the name but they sell really good patties with the bun thingy (i like them plain without the bun LOL) It is where all the Jamaican shops are on Eglington! 14 days until I taste a real Jamaican patty in Jamaica woohoo!

We are heading to the capital. Can't wait!

I'll hopefully be staying in Northern Ontario, sent in my application yesterday, been to the big cities in ontario, toronto/ottawa and can see the benefits of both.

We did (Toronto). Landed in 2010.

LOL chickie, it's called coco bread, and your referring to Randy's patties on Eglinton, thats an ok shop, however it far from Scarborough. Little Jamaica is on Eglinton but there are Jamaican grocery and food shops all over the GTA!

Yes yes, little Jamaica.....that's the place......but yes I know there are other places, we always come down to the Danforth market to get our groceries at least once a month and hit the flea markets too! I love shopping in TO but love shopping in the states more.......well i just love shopping period! :P :P :P

Mrslwsn, do you recommend any good places for Jamaican beef patties? Chickie72, thanks for telling me that place on Eglinton has the coco bun...it's so good with it...I guess more hearty, but ofcourse still love it without it. I miss eating alot of the good food you can find in Toronto compared to where I am now, lol.

Well, depends on the area. Most west Indian/Caribbean grocery offer a variety of Jamaican beef patties.

Do you recommend any good places? which place do you think is really good in Scarborough area? Like i said, the place that we went to get it all the time is closed do own now. It was a Jamaican deli/groceries on Lawrence/Kennedy. Best ones that I had in Toronto.
