How long to maintain bank statement

Hey
For how long should I maintain a bank balance before sending in application.
My case is that my classes start in May but I want to apply in second week of january. The required liquid fund will be arranged by first week of jan.
I heard that you need to maintain the bank statement for a period of 2 to 4 months. WHat should I do?

maintain a statement for about 4 months. you can also show someone else as your sponsor.

Well that wont be possible. I mean I can maintain it for 4 months but I have to apply with in 2 weeks, otherwise I will be late.
So would it be ok if I transfer money and then apply (the money would be maintained for couple of weeks before filing application)?
Using sponsor would make my case weaker

Transaction just two weeks before can raise doubts. Be prepared to explain it.

Should I mention it in cover letter that I sold a property at this place.
I could do that, I could show the sale deed etc. to convince that source of fund was sale of land x

thats upto you. If you think it can work then its fine.
But I don't know if you should write it in your cover letter. I think you should wait until visa officer actually questions it. But I m not sure if u should write it or not.
