I have mailed my citizenship application on August 01 and the delivery notice shows that it was delivered on August 07. It's October 01, and I have not heard anything from CIC yet.

Checking CIC website, I have the understanding that they will not send any acknowledgement unless they open/start processing the application. Also, I should not try contacting them before the standard processing time is over.

I am wondering how long usually they take to start processing an application, or what has been the longest period (if known) that CIC have taken to start processing an application?

All excellent responses. I am not too worried about the waiting time. I just needed an idea whether or not this waiting period is a normal situation these days. Thanks a lot to all of you.

City has nothing to do with any application. This is some sort of stats made by this forum people based on 1 % of total applicant . I am Mississauga applicant.

Maybe most applicants don't post here, but we still have a good sample size with hundreds of them.

Yes. 1% sample size.
So? Have you heard of opinion polls on those news outlets? They don't interview everyone on the planet, instead it's more like 0.000001% of the population. You may choose not to believe it, but we have hundreds of applicants tracking their applications on this forum, and that's good and reliable info for most people.

this would be a good quick introductory explanation on how it works, and yeah we have more than enough

You must be delusional to think the city you live in does not affect the timeline of your application.
If so, how come some visa offices abroad can process an application in 5 months and for others it takes 30 months?
Whatever your answer is, the principle is the same. Different factors for different cities, which slightly change the timeline.

Interesting calculator. It says you only need 383 samples to get a 95% +/- 5% confidence, with a population of 200,000.
It’s not surprising, and it’s easily verifiable with some simple math/stat calculations

My application was received on 13 July and still no AOR. I have been calling CIC for the past three weeks and they cannot find my application. One of the agent said if I don't get it by Nov 1st then they will launch an investigation.

I am just worried that the application package is not lost somewhere

They probably don’t open your application as yet.

I have received mine after 93 days. You have been calling for 3 weeks means not even 2 months since you sent application. Do you know every time you call, they log that under your client ID? Often government people like to delay someone's application as long as possible if they are being annoyed by someone without any valid reason.
Yeah I know. Just being worried because people after me also received their AORs
