How long does it take??

I know the answer is 'how long is a piece of string' (or something equally sarcastic!) but my friend has just been offered a job in Canada, they are happy with the LMO process to get him working for them, but can anyone give me ANY indication of how long that takes??
No paperwork has been started yet, and the job will be in Alberta if that makes a difference.

No one? Not even a ballpark figure? A month? A year? 10 years?????

I don't have any personal experience in this area. However I've seen people report anywhere from a few weeks to a few months on these boards (LMO processing time only - not including the work permit).

Thanks scylla. He will be staying with me and my family when he gets here, and we have just signed off the blueprints for a new house so I was worried that if he got here too quickly we would all end up having to share a tent somewhere!! Lol

The LMO can go either way. Maybe your friend should wait until that process is complete before coming. One that is done the work permit should not be a problem. I extreme cases you can get one done at a border or local immigration office. They try to discourage the latter practice but it can be done.
