I got the letter of approval saying I meet the eligibility requirement to apply for permanent resident status as a member of the class.

Application type: Inland sponsorship with dependent child
Received letter date: Feb, 2014

Been waiting for a year, but still not yet have any updates, anyone knows any way to fasten the process? How long do I still have to wait? :-\

As you have applied Inland it is generally a much slower process and unless you are past your regular processing time there really is not much you can do to speed it up.

as you have received AIP (approval in principle) and it is issued when the applicant has met eligibility requirements. It also means that you have passed/cleared STAGE 1 of the process.
Now your application is at STAGE 2 of the processing which can take from 2-8 months. it consist of Medical, security, background checks and other verifications for person being sponsored.

you can now also check your application status online as once the application is at STAGE 2 the online status is available.

hope it helps

How long was it since you filed?

I would check your application status on ECAS, it seems like you may be over the date, which means you can also call CIC. But check ECAS first to see your application status. From the date of that letter, it seems you should have been approved and received your COPR unless they were waiting for something.

1. We received your application for permanent residence on November 28, 2012.

2. We started processing your application on February 5, 2014.

so what can I do now? it is been processing so long.
Should I make a call to CIC to ask what is happening to my application? I found the CIC call centre number on the letter, it is 1-888-242-2100, should I call this number or else?

You are past the 27 months, so I would say you are safe to call the call centre and inquire. If you want, you could order your GCMS notes before you do.

They are the Global Case Management System notes (any notes they make about your file).

It will give you an idea as to where your application is and if there has been any movement on the application. You obtain them by sending a Access to Information and Privacy request to CIC. I believe there is a 5 dollar fee for them.

one more question, I'm the dependent of this application, and currently having study permit retaining in Canada, am I free to leave Canada and come back like a normal international student? I have a valid passport and study permit.

I am not sure how it works with dependants, but with the principle applicant at least, they need to be "in Canada", they are free to leave however they also take a chance that they could be turned away at the border when trying to re-enter and then their application may end up being cancelled (Inland Applicants have a requirement for a in-person interview within Canada, so if you can't get back in Canada, it would be found out at least at that stage)
