How long CIC in India can keep passport?

Could someone tell me how long CIC in india (New Delhi) can keep passport before they send back with
Visa stamp on it.

I submit file under family sponsorship. My wife send passport to New Delhi.
It's been 9 month already and still did not hear anything. When I check process all it says "In process".

Unlike most visa offices, ND requests the passport at the start of the process (most VOs request the passport at the end of the process when they are ready to issue the visa). For this reason it is difficult to say how much longer you will have to wait. However hopefully you are close to the end of the process.

As scylla said ND requests passport very early but as its already 9 months for your wife to send her passport , I think you guys are near to the end of the process.

hi I apply my husband papers oct 2012 after feb 2013 they his passport requested his passport , know is 2014 to long tell me plz how long they hold his passport ....thx
