Hi,
I am out of canada due to some reason and wanted to move back as my wife is pregnant. Can someone please help any criteria to satisfy for OHIP to be active. I heard we need to live 212 days in 12 month. I lived lesser than that. Can you please tell if still we are covered under OHIP or not.

When did you and you wife receive OHIP? How long did you spend in Canada after that?

From previous posts, they landed March 2018 and left August 2018.

Ramasingh05, You are currently no longer covered by OHIP. If you would like coverage by the time of your child's birth in August, you will need to move back no later than May 2019 though I would attempt an earlier move. You should have already told ServiceOntario that you were going to be out of the country, not sure why you applied if you didn't plan on staying yet, but usage of OHIP when you're not eligible will lead to you paying back all costs for any time you used it while ineligible (that goes for when you come back too so if you decide to fly back, you will need to pay out of pocket for your wife's OB check ups until OHIP coverage kicks in).

Per: https://www.ontario.ca/page/apply-ohip-and-get-health-card#section-2

To qualify for OHIP, you must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below plus at least one of the additional requirements.

To meet the minimum qualifications you must:

  • be physically in Ontario for 153 days in any 12‑month period
  • be physically in Ontario for at least 153 days of the first 183 days immediately after you began living in the province
  • make Ontario your primary home
