Hi,
I previously lived in Canada for two years under an IEC visa, which expired in December 2019. While there, I met my now common law partner who is a Canadian citizen. We have lived together since June 2018. When my visa expired in December 2019, I returned home to England, and my partner joined me a couple of weeks later. Since January 2020, we have been travelling together.
Our plan is for my partner to return to Canada in May 2020 to resume work and find an apartment for us. Due to commitments at home, I would likely be joining him in July 2020 to begin my inland PR and open work permit application.
My question is, will there be any issues with us being separated from May until July? Is there a maximum amount of time that you can be physically apart without affecting common law?
If need be, I can join him in May. We just don't want to affect our common law relationship as our planned time apart can be avoided.
Thanks in advance
Sarah.
