How fast did your first passport application take?

Five simple questions:
1. Type of application: Urgent, Express, or Normal

2. Type of delivery: Mail or Pickup

3. How many days did it take you to receive it? When did you apply/receive?

4. Which office/city did you apply at?

5. Any advice/tips?

This will help people to decide if it's worth it to pay more.

6. Bonus question: did anyone phone to check your guarantor or references? All 3 or just 1?

1. Express
2. Pickup
3. 7 days (they told me to come back in 7 days and I did)
4. Toronto Downtown (Victoria St)
5. If you need expedited processing then do it. If you don't, then don't. Simple as that.

1. Type of application: Normal

2. Type of delivery: Mail

3. How many days did it take you to receive it: 5 - 6 days

4. Which office/city did you apply at: Downtown Toronto office

5. Any advice/tips? Get the 10-Year one for $160!!!!!

Lol seems like you got yours 5-6 days and paid the cheapest vs. Keesio above who paid more and got it in longer, lol.

Was it 5-6 business days?

They said that it may be done earlier and I can call to check or I can just come in 7 days when it will definitely be ready. I just wanted it in a week so I didn't call earlier and just came in the 7 days.

But if I knew it would just be 5-6 days, I would have just done regular service!

1. Type of application: Normal

2. Type of delivery: Mail

3. How many days did it take you to receive it? When did you apply/receive? 9 working days

4. Which office/city did you apply at? Point Clair in Fairview Mall

5. Any advice/tips? double check you papers

This will help people to decide if it's worth it to pay more.

6. Bonus question: did anyone phone to check your guarantor or references? All 3 or just 1? they never call anyone of my ref and sponsor

1. Type of application: Express

2. Type of delivery: Pickup

3. How many days did it take you to receive it? When did you apply/receive? 5 Days (picked up)

4. Which office/city did you apply at? Mississauga

5. Any advice/tips? Ask the information counter on how long normal processing takes and then make a decision if you want it sooner. I was told normal processing was taking 10-12 days. I needed to travel before that time frame, so applied for express.

This will help people to decide if it's worth it to pay more.

6. Bonus question: did anyone phone to check your guarantor or references? All 3 or just 1? Nope

Interesting how they didn't call. Anyone else with other experiences?

1. Type of application: Normal

2. Type of delivery: picked up for a fee of $20 (due to booked holiday)

3. How many days did it take you to receive it? When did you apply/receive? 10 working days (would have been 12 working days if I didn't pick it up myself - so if it would have been delivered to my door by mail)

4. Which office/city did you apply at? Victoria St - downtown Toronto

5. Any advice/tips? the instructions are pretty clear

6. Bonus question: did anyone phone to check your guarantor or references? All 3 or just 1? The did not call my references nor the guarantor

hey all who have already been through the process of applying for their passports:

Question:

Do you submit your original citizenship certificate when you apply in person at the office? Or do they just have a look at it at the counter and return it to you?

If submitting - would it be a good idea to get it laminated or put it in a plastic folder so as to prevent it from getting messed up?

Thanks!

Never ever laminate your certificate, if you do so when applying for passport it might be considered as damaged. If you want to protect it just use plastic cover or binder.
