Hello All,

My son is currently in 7th grade,I hope he can go to Canada to study next year,my wife goes with him and take care of him.I know my son needs to apply a study permit. But what visa does my wife needs to apply for?If we plan to study for two years(8th and 9th grade). How much deposit do i need to prepare in my bank account? If I can provide proof of my annual income, can i not provide proof of bank deposit?

Thank you.

The short answer to this question is that there is really no way for your wife to accompany him officially. She can try coming to Canada on a tourist visa. However a TRV does not allow her to live in Canada and it's quite possible she may need to leave at some point (also no guarantee the TRV will be approved).

You will need to find someone who can act as your child's guardian in Canada. This will be required as part of the study permit application. This person cannot be you or your wife since you are not living in Canada. Hopefully you have family or close friends in Canada willing to take on this responsibility.

Assuming your wife is approved for the TRV, she will need a two way ticket to be able to travel to Canada. She won't be able to work while in Canada and also will not be covered by the health care system. So you will need to take out private insurance to cover emergencies (and pay for anything else out of pocket). Normally visitors are allowed into Canada for six months however the duration is ultimately up to CBSA when you arrive. She can try extending her stay once in Canada by another six months. But of course no guarantee of approval.

In terms of bank deposits, I think you would want to show at least $35K to $40K to cover the $15K tuition and $10K in living expenses for your son, plus an additional $10K for your wife and a bit more for travel expenses.
