How does a request for more info affect your waiting time?

Hi all,

The question in the thread pretty much says it. We're processing our sponsorship application outland through Ottawa (submitted June 2013) and at the end of January we received a request for more information (they wanted proof we would live together after he lands) and a deadline to submit that info (60 days). We sent that information within three weeks of getting the request, but we haven't heard anything since. Does anyone know if we get shuffled back down to the bottom of the pile when they request more info? How long until we see an update? Will it be another 8 months? Has anyone else had experience with this? Thanks for any help you can give, the waiting is so discouraging.

we had missing information, and sent it in 2 weeks ago. my husband called CIC and they told him it can take 3-4 weeks for the information to get attached to the original application.

I had a request for more information in early April. I sent my Visa Office an email to confirm they had received the info via post. This is how they responded:

"I can confirm that the requested documents have been received and added to you’re application for review. Once you’re file has been reviewed by an Immigration Officer we will be in contact."

Good to know.

What kind of document was it? Was it something like a police certificate or some additional info for your application?

I believe your GCMS notes (should you request them) will have a "bring forward date" somewhere in there. That gives you an idea when they will look at your file next.

How do we request GCMS? And what is the reason for requesting them? What will they help with?

They asked for more proof of common-law/living together

I got requested the same thing, so the fact that they only took 5 weeks to go in process after that is encouraging for me. They asked for additional proof of cohabitation. With my initial application, I just sent proof that we had a joint bank account that indicated when it was opened back in summer 2012, and what the date was on that day.

I subsequently sent off 26 months worth of joint bank statements. And two policy renewal statements for our home insurance with both our names and addresses listed on it.

Anyway this thread got me thinking and for what it's worth, I emailed the London VO last evening to ask them whether this request for additional documentation would cause a delay in processing my application, amazingly they actually responded today with this:

"Thank you for your recent e-mail.

Please note that this will not affect your processing times. "

I hope they mean what they say.

How long have you lived together when you applied? For us it was exactly 12 months and for the first 10 days the only proof is a letter from the landlord. After 10 days we have payment receipts for the rent, paystubs, mail, joint health insurance. After 10 months joint condo, joint life insurance, joint bank account.

CIC requested a joint rental agreement (we didn't have one, only another letter from the landlord), joint utilities (included in rent and now not possible because we are not married), joint bank account from the first months (ours started after 10) and T4s and tax returns for the last 2 years.

My file went into process 5 weeks after they received my docs and 4 days later I got decision made. But I still don't know the result.

Around 19 months together living in the same house. CIC just requested additional info and said:

"Cover at least a 12 month period – Such as joint mortgage/property deed/tenancy agreement, bank accounts, partner named on life insurance/pension plan."

I sent them all our joint bank statements since June 2012 and then our two joint policy renewals for our home insurance. Hopefully that should suffice. I sent them info off two days later and they confirmed via email that they received the additional proof. Really hope that I'll also hear something soon. Fingers crossed for you, but if you are 'decision made' and it was an outland application then you are pretty much fine.

The funny thing was that they didn't actually write: Show us more proof. They simply wrote: We are missing the following documents: joint lease, joint utility bills, blabla. They never wrote that our relationship is doubtful or they need these documents as additional proof.

It was the same for me. They just said they required this info in order to continue processing my application. I suppose that is reassuring.

That's about what I figured. They received our information 10 weeks ago, and they are not responding to emails, so I went to my MP this week to try and get some answers. I don't begrudge anyone else's getting their cases resolved, but it's kind of hard to sit back and wait patiently when you see people who sent in their stuff months after you did have already landed :(
