How do you know that application was received?

Hi,
Just sent my package by FedEx. I'll have delivery notice... but..

how does everyone track the progress of the application, and know that it was received by actual visa officer?
Would they send me an email with some case # ? If so how soon?

Delivery notice is probably the only notice you will have.
You might get an AOR (acknowledgement of receipt), but not everybody gets one. You might get the sponsorship approval straight away. If you look at the feb 2013 thread (see my other message), you can see that some early feb applicants already heard back from CIC. However, officially CIC is working on applications received in November ( but quite a few people in December, January have already had their answers for stage 1), so it can take a while.
Sit back and relax!
Once you have stage 1 approval you will have a file number and UCI, and you can log into ecas and check, but not until then.
