How do you feel about Canada's healthcare system?

I want to do a simple, unofficial poll about how general Canadians feel about the Canadian healthcare system. Do you think it is successful? Do you think it is properly funded? These are too general questions. Nobody is going to say they are happy but many realize we are still incredibly fortunate. Clearly not fully funded but we don’t have unlimited funds.

I went in for an ulcer CAT scan and got a call 2hrs later at home concerning my spleen. My Doctor sent me to the emergency and they proceeded with a major operation. It turns out I had a cyst with 2.5 L of fluid inside. I was in the hospital for a week after. This whole thing was done between 3pm and 9pm. So if people complain about Canadian hospitals they are taking shots at a world class system.

How long did you wait for the CT scan? I have had to wait for 10 months for a brain MRI. I am not dying and it is a specialized scan but it is for a progressive neuromuscular disease and think 10 months is unacceptable and I had to really push for them to book the MRI since nobody knew what scan I needed. Call after 6 weeks and then 4 weeks later. The scheduler informed me it was because they need a second machine that should arrive soon. I have waited for other tests for 2-6 months for other imagining. Have waited 6-12 months many times to see a specialist. I expect at least 2 months. Canada does acute care better than chronic care. Many provinces do cancer well. Paediatrics are another area where there tends to be a lot of support if you are close to a children’s hospital. I am much more knowledgeable than a typical patient. I wonder how people without medical knowledge manage complex diseases.

Check with your benefits company but I'm sure it doesn't do much when it comes to CT and MRI.
