I have been in a long distance relationship for 6 years. We met in guatemala. However the constant travelling (11 times) and having to stay over there for 3 months at a time has really affected my career. I want to invite my boyfriend to visit me this year however there is no big event going on except my 30th birthday. I want him to meet my family before we get married (not engaged but have discussed it) and I want him to get a feel of canada before we decide where we want to be long term. He has a job but doesn't make much money and also sells cars throughout the year independantly. Any advice on how to go about this would be great. Also anything I should Include in my invitation letter? Should I put that I will be returning with him in August? Should I say that I will cover all costs? Do I need to include proof of our relationship such as photos?

Also can I put that I would like him to stay 1 month or is that too long? Once he gets here is he allowed to stay longer than the time indicated on the invitation letter?

If he has limited to no travel to countries requiring visas (such as the UK, US) then he should request 3 weeks at most - anything longer than that will likely make IRCC concerned he has plans on remaining here long term. He will want to demonstrate strong ties to his home country to be approved (e.g. employment, property, etc.) and also show that he has sufficient funds to pay for his trip (ideally he should fund his own trip - not you). The application will be approved or refused based on the strength of his profile. Keep the evidence of a relationship to a minimum (again, otherwise IRCC may have concerns he has plans to stay in Canada).
