Hello ,
I am a little bit confused about the way to calculate my physical day in Canada .
for instance , If my flight was scheduled from Toronto>USA on May 5th 2011 and returned on May 9th 2011.
should I entered on the calculator as :
May 5th 2011 to May 9th 2011?
or
May 6th 2011 to May 9th 2011 ?

Thank you in advance.

You should enter the date that you actually left Canada.

I do not understand of many posts here.

People are always concern about a single day or did they arrive before midnight or after midnight.

why you can't just count additional day and put there ?

If you have calculated more absence then actually you did not, will CIC going to refuse your application ? absolutely not.

but concerning about every single hour of your presence and every single day, you may eventually going to end up with less absence then actually you are and which is going in turn to get RQ.

** In one trip to USA, I do not remember what date I returned so I added 1 more day as returned to be safe side. It is that simple. ***

I am mentioning this issue over here is that I do not wish that any of you guys end up with RQ unnecessarily.

As long as you enter the right departure and arrival dates in the online residency calculator provided by CIC - it will accurately calculate your residency and tell you when you will be eligible to apply.

Even though I have exact travel dates outside Canada, I am applying after 2 months.

May 6th 2011 to May 9th 2011 or May 5th 2011 to May 10th 2011 because for calculation of residency for citizenship 'one day' (either departure or arrival) is not counted.

I am not sure to understand , because on the calculator it will show that I have been outside canada for 3 days if I enter May 6th 2011 to May 9th 2011 and 5 days if I put May 5th 2011 to May 10th 2011.

Essentially, you are asking if the online residence calculator automatically kicks out one day when it makes the calculations or if you should do it yourself?

Right, I understand. Do the instructions give any indication on what to do? Does anyone know the answer?

Will it automatically kick out a day or not? A previous poster seems to indicate it will not.....
