According to https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...ceremony/schedule/notificationsregarding.html it's supposed to be by mail. The same is true for the interview notification However, it appears that email is actually being used as well, depending on the application...

Depends on your location i.e. the local citizenship centre handling your application. Calgary sends email. Not sure about other cities.
