How can you get insurance before you get your residency card?

Hi,

I am having a hard time getting insurance. My travel insurance has run out. I am not longer a traveler. I have implied status in Canada now but insurance companies won't give me any health insurance as I am not a resident or have an OHIP card number. Has anyone else experienced this? What should I do to get cover?

I am not sure how Ontario works, but in Alberta, once you have your OWP, you can get Alberta Health Card. Maybe you could buy travellers insurance? It won't cover Drs visits but if an accident happens, it could. Make sure you read the small print.
