Hi Folks,
I am preparing the TRV-Family Visit application for my wife. We are living in China and planning to stay here long-term. So we are not planning to apply for permanent residence anytime in the near future. A few questions below as to how to properly prepare and strengthen our application:
-General Education and Employment Form
This form is available as a PDF but is not editable. I'm guessing other applicants have just used some software to fill it out?
Do copies of diplomas and or degrees need to be included here, or is simply just writing the information onto the form ok?
-Invitation Letter
I got my father to write this for my wife inviting her to Canada with all the required details. He stated that we would be staying with my parents and they would host us for 2 weeks. Also provided pension statement and banking statements, etc.
Anything else that could be added here to strengthen the letter?
-Proof of Means of Financial Support
This is where my wife's application is the weakest:
*Banking Documents
We have just a little over the equivalent of $7,000 CAD in her bank account. This is mostly all my money which I have transferred into her account over the last year and a half. Some of the transfers are by cash, but most are through 3rd party financial services like WeChat and Alipay. These show up as transfers usually less than $400 CAD from her Alipay account into her bank account. In the last 4 months there have also been a few larger deposits, one around $600, one around $700, one around $900 and another over $1100. On average most are around $200 or $300. But 95% of all transfers are originating from me and send through 3rd party financial service.
Do I need to explain this? Or since we are married, will they just assume that this is our shared money?
*Employment
My wife works part-time as a barista and her salary is very low. We are trying to get her employer to provide a simple stamped letter on company letterhead that says they have no objections for a 2 week family visit. They refuse to provide any form of pay record, not even pay stubs, to part-time employees. They will not even mention the salary. So we will provide the bank statement for the account which her salary is deposited into etc. Any ways to strengthen this?
*Other
*Neither of us own any property, we rent and the contract is until October 2019. So we will provide that, along with the deposit receipt.
*The only other thing I can think of is to give my bank statement in Canada and write a letter stating that these funds will also be available for our use. Any ideas/guidelines for this?
*My wife supports me with a lot of my different teaching jobs and life in general in China so that's a big reason why she is currently only working part-time. Also for health reasons she is not working in her trained field as a nurse.
I don't know if this is something that we should explain or not? Anything at all we can do to make this section of our application stronger?
-Purpose of Travel
We are preparing an itinerary, but just how detailed should it be? Is it necessary to include estimated costs of the trip?
Besides an itinerary, what else could be included? (I don;t think we will book any flights until we get the visa.)
-Proof of Relationship
How can my wife prove she is the daughter-on-law to my parents. We have all of our passports, all Canadian birth certificates, and the marriage certificate. Problem is my birth certificate (Province of Ontario) doesn't have the names of my parents. And I'd prefer to apply sooner rather than later and not have to wait for a long time while they process a request for the long form certificate.
Any ideas? Would the above documents be enough, without the long form birth certificate with my parents names on it? Anything else we should add?
I have wedding pictures from China, that my parents attended. Also they have Chinese visas in their passports that show they were here during the date of our marriage. (In case that helps.)
-Client Information/Cover Letter/Ties to China
What should we prepare for this? Should I write an invitation letter as well or a letter of support/explanation?
I think that the next biggest thing after our financial situation is to highlight her ties to China. Am I right?
She only has a part-time job and a bank account, along with the lease/deposit to our apartment (until Oct 2019) which is in both our names.
Her parents are our only family here in China but they support themselves. (I was thinking to possibly provide her family register and show that she is an only child and we try to keep a close relationship with her parents since we are there only family.)
Would it be worth signing her up for some kind of training after our trip to Canada to show that she needs to come back?
I suppose I am also an indirect tie to China for her. My work is here and I have had a residence permit since February 2018 (after we got married), and before that was making visa runs to stay living here, so in total I have lived in China for over 3 years and we plan to stay here.
In terms of my work, I kind of have a few different things on the go but I could probably get one of my employers to provide a letter of my employment stating that I am needed back to work. (But I am not on an official contract per say.) Would this be helpful?
And would making a case about my being in China for 3 plus years be helpful? Since we have been married we have only ever left twice together. My residence permit will expire in January 2020 so we would need to be back before then to renew it.
So what I'm trying to figure out is which of these things would be useful and how can we present them to strengthen our application? Should all of this go in the cover letter?
Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated! Thank you and sorry for the long post.
