Most banks have a program for newcomers to canada. My husband applied for credit card with scotiabank but since was a temporary foreign worker back then, they required him to have a security deposit first $1,200 for a credit limit of $1,000.

I tried to apply for a secured credit card but the teller advised me against it so I applied for a "pre paid" credit card, just so I can start establishing a credit record, but the teller said might as well apply for a regular credit card too which I did. I got both, thru my bank. Your husband has a secured credit card, so his money sleeps in the bank as a "collateral" for his purchases using his credit card.

Thank you Job_Seeker, I asked TD but they said I need the security number then can apply their credit card. I need build my bank credit!

You can start with a $500.00 secured credit card. You Deposit $500.00 and that`s your credit limit. Try RBC or BMO. You can also try capital one. Capital One I think is $75.00. Just so you can start building a credit record.
