I'min Canada and have the option of flying or driving to the US. I don't want to take the drive or book a flight without knowing that I can enter and get my PR card issued so is there a way of finding out which places I can use?

TIA.

Where are in you in Canada . That will narrow things down a bit.

BC, nearest airport Kelowna.

Although I've looked and not found anything, I wondered if there was a list of authorised ports that I hadn't seen.

None of the locations will actually issue you the PR Card. They will submit the request on your behalf, but it will take ~ 6-8 weeks to receive it in the mail.

Ah, I see. So any land or airport with immigration should be ok?

yes.... good luck .

Thanks - that makes life a lot simpler!

From when are you considered to actually have PR?

It takes a few weeks to get your actual papers but you can apply for your Sin# and work straight away .. Are you on our London thread. They have all the timelines documented . That may help.

When you complete the landing procedures, you become a permanent resident.

Another alternative - since you are already in Canada, you can book an appointment through the CIC call centre to complete your landing procedure in a local CIC office. It takes a little longer to get an appointment; however, if your immigrant visa is expiring in a short time and you are far from the nearest border, the call centre agent can put in an urgent request for you. This was the case for me a few years ago, and I got an appointment in 1 week.
Just something to keep in mind in case you prefer not to land at a border.

1. The closest CIC office to Kelowna is Vancouver, so it is easier to flagpole at Osoyoos.

Thank you Taffy, SenoritaBella and PMM - you've all been really helpful.

If Kelowna airport is an option I'll do a day trip to Seattle.

Taffy, I'm not on the London thread. I was living in the UAE when I applied so I was processed through the AVVO. I'll take a look anyway.

This is very helpful information for me too, especially the Osoyoos option. Taddy congrats on finalizing. Are you North or South of Kelowna? Just might be nice to know someone in the area :-) We still have to start the process but I hope to be "visiting" around April next year.

Thanks Gemini. I'm north. Feel free to PM me for more info :)
