you don't "apply" for a visitor's record. a visitor's record is GIVEN to you at the border if CBSA feels the need to track the amount of time you spend in Canada. in my opinion, it is not a wise thing to ask for a visitor's record when it's possible to just cross without being put in their system. i don't understand the need for asking to be flagged in the system when it's not necessary. let CBSA decide if one is necessary!

Agreed! Unnecessary paper trails are overrated.

almathea, please be respectful and don't use my real name on this forum, and i ask you to delete it in your previous post. thanks.

i didn't say ottawa is taking 7 months. i said it's taking 6-10, and that's precisely what 2013 applicants saw and 2014 applicants are seeing. yes, visa offices slow down and speed up. this is common knowledge.

there's a difference in people getting the OWP when they applied separately after the pilot program began and when they applied for it ALONG with their application. please advise which group those people are in? did they apply for PR AFTER Dec 22 or JUST the owp? again, those are different groups of people and i never said that people prior to dec 22 weren't receiving owp. sophiee posts the spreadsheet and i look at it once in a while, so i haven't seen many applicants who applied for PR AFTER dec 22 who received owp. feel free to share the updated spreadsheet if i am wrong. thanks.

OWP recvd last week, applied for January 27th.

It's still very new and I absolutely agree with you that we don't know how it's going to change, or if they will continue to deliver on this 4 month thing. I'm not trying to be flippant about that. But people are receiving OWPs.
]

right, they applied for OWP on Jan 27. they did NOT apply for PR on Jan 27. their PR application had already been submitted PRIOR to the pilot program. again, people who have sent in PR applications AND OWP applications TOGETHER AFTER Dec 22 have yet to see results.

I'm watching this with great interest as this is what we'll have to do.

With the way things have worked out I'll be entering Canada long before PR will be granted. The way things are going my husband will probably only just have been granted sponsorship approval.

We won't be arriving with too much stuff and I'll have a return ticket out of Canada. I'm hoping we'll get away with our usual "visiting husband's family" line...

After we got married back in Arizona, we crossed and I told the customs man that I was visiting. He asked me if I was employeed I said yes, I'm a flight attendant with United and he said "oh so you know the drill". I brought 2 checked suitcases and he didn't stamp my passport. Once I reach the 5 month visitor mark I will apply for a visitor extension while we continue to wait for PR.

Just make sure you say you are visiting. and don't bring too much stuff, you'll be fine.

All I can say is that we pulled up with a truck full of his belongings, and my husband declared his intention to stay in Canada while his application processes. We mentioned that I had already been approved as the sponsor.

Once we went inside the building, it took 15 minutes for them to issue a paper that they stapled to his passport. It says that he may not work or attend school while he's here and that he's married to a Canadian citizen.

Since then he has crossed back and forth several times. They ask if he's bringing back fire arms, alcohol or tobacco and value of goods. That's about it.

Maybe it's just luck though I wish this luck would apply to the actual processing of the stupid application.
