How can a divorce effect a Canadian PR who was sponsored by their spouse.

Hello,

I was sponsored by my spouse of 8 years and my application was processed and approved. I've been a Canadian resident for approximately 1 year. Our relationship is not working out. We have been separated for about 2 months and now divorce seems likely to be the best solution for us.
I would like to stay in Canada. Can this effect my Canadian residency? Any advice would be helpful.

If you were married for two years before you submitted your PR application, you most likely have a PR without conditions. If so, even if you get divorced you can remain a PR of Canada.
Look at your PR card - it should say whether it is conditional or not.
