HI!

Just wondering the if new policy changed for Intetnational students working hours requirement. Some people said the woking experience we have before (under study permit,or off campus work permit) is now calculate the cec require working experience now.Within 3 years.
Can anybody tell us the exaclty changes, and how many hours total? 1560 or 1950? thx!

There is no longer a post-graduate stream and a worker stream, there is only 1 set of requirements. You can get the correct info directly from CIC:

So,I can assume it doesen't matter if you are post-graduate or foreign worker as soon as you have 30 paid hours per week at least 1 year, and qualify language requirements, then u good to go? And the working expericence that we have before, like working with the work permit- off campus, and study permit working on campus account to CEC working experience? thx

Work Experience acquired while on-campus or off-campus work permit period is not counted towards gaining 1 year requirement. For students only experience counted is when you have post-graduate work permit.

I would tend to agree. The main purpose of your stay in Canada while on a study permit would be for education. Therefore, it would not count. But experience gained on a PGWP would certainly be eligible..

However, the language that exists does not suggest one way or the other, now. The only precendent I found, which I think CIC will maintain and use when evaluating applications is the following: "A work permit does not guarantee that you will find a job. It is your responsibility to look for work. Even if you work off campus, your studies must be the main reason you are in Canada."

Previous post by jes_ON that is applicable to this situation:

SIGH. The same information is STILL in the Work Experience Requirements of the instruction guide.

"Note: Any periods of self-employment, unauthorized work, or periods of employment during which you were engaged in full-time study (e.g. work experience gained on a co-op, off-campus or on-campus work permit) will not be included when calculating the period of qualifying work experience. You must have had temporary resident status during the period of work experience acquired in Canada."

First - You still have to work for 12 months - 11 months is not enough.

Second - overtime is irrelevant to CIC. Either the week is full-time (30 hours OR MORE) per week, or it isn't. There is no difference between 30, 40, 60 or 80 hours per week - it is one week of full-time employment.

If the week is fewer than 30 hours per week, then you are part-time, and have to calculate the "full-time equivalent" using 1560 hours as a target (which will take longer than 1 year to accumulate).

Hey Jes, I have sent a personal message to you. Can you please check and advise.

In case you all haven't seen it yet, I just found that CIC has posted a New OP 25-A manual (wasn't there the last time I looked) - OP 25-A is for the new rules effective Jan 2, 2013. (The OP 25 is for applications submitted BEFORE Jan 2, 2013).

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op25A-eng.pdf

See p. 6, section 6.3 for the description of full-time work - "Work experience must be acquired over a period of at least one year; work in excess of 30 hours per week over a shorter period cannot compensate for any shorter overall period of experience."

jxh89,

what jes_ON has replied is exactly right. you need 12 months AND 1560 hours in order to qualify. I dont see the point in repeating everything that has been said already, so I'm gonna stop here. ;D
