Hongkong post lost my passport and COPR? Help..

I've reached DM2 a month ago and I'm waiting for my COPR and Passport from HongKong office now.

The only mailing method cic hk uses is registered mail. Based on the tracking number cic hk provided, the package left HongKong on May 15th. It's been almost 1 month and that's the only tracking entry. There's still no tracking information on CanadaPost yet. I've checked with Canada Post and Canada Post claimed the mail has not reached the land of Canada yet.

I'm not sure what to do now. I don't know if Canada Post is bull*censored word*ting me. Seems like the only thing i can do is ask HK CIC to file a case with HK Post and track down where the hell the package went.

The worst part is that my medical exam expires on July 1st. There are only 2 weeks left before I can receive the package and land.

Has this happened to anyone before? What should I do?

Re: Hongkong post lost my passport? Help..

it may help to check with "China Post tracking". That should tell you if it arrived in Canada. Good luck

Thanks. We did contact Canada post but they said there's no tracking information that indicates the package arrived Canada.

Re: Hongkong post lost my passport? Help..

I know it's a different country, but a month ago I've mailed the csq forms for my wife.
She received and everything is ok, but the Canada post don't even show the tracking.
Their tracking system is not so good.

Re: Hongkong post lost my passport? Help..

I thought passports are supposed to be sent through the VAC (visa application centre)? Correct me if I'm wrong. This is how my wife sent her passport and it was returned to the VAC she sent it from, full tracking, no problems. I know this doesn't help now, hopefully it shows up soon.

While people rag on Canada Post, a lot, their service does usually work just fine with the exception of their tracking service.

Did you contact HK post office? You must talk and push them to check out where is the mail floating to.... (I can do it for you if you r not in HK)
HKpost registered mail could not be trusted, even though HK Speedpost the tracking system out of HK is useless. For impt mail to cda must use UPS gtee service, it cost higher but gives you arr time ETA b4 you paid.

Re: Hongkong post lost my passport? Help..

I usually use FedEx and the service is terrific. It arrives Canada on the next day normally.

Thanks. We did contact HK post office but they couldn't provide more information unless the sender, which is CIC HongKong in this case, creates a case.

I believe CIC HK only use registered mail as the option to return passport..

Thanks. I understand how to track the package on hongkong post website. It's just that it's been 1 month but no sign of delivery that worries me.

I have no doubts you know how to track a package, but have you followed the instructions outlined in the quoted section I provided? Call and start a claim, if they wont start one for you either call back and pose as the sender, or call the sender CIC HK and have them start a claim.

I have tried. Hk post office requires copy of the post receipt and sender information, which only CIC wouLD have.

I have contacted CIC multiple times but their keep asking me to check with local post office. They seem to refuse to go through the trouble and file a claim.

I don't think there is anything Canada Post can do at this point. I don't think they are BSing. If the parcel crossed any major shipping points it should have been scanned, and the scan updated.

Now, its entirely possible it will just show up one day, especially if there isn't a scannable bar code on the package. (I am not at all familiar with HK post) I know some Canada Post packages have tracking numbers and bar codes that aren't actually used to track, nor are they scanned at any point. I also know that with those packages you have to wait 45 days from the time of shipment to start a claim.

Right now all you can really do is keep hammering HK post. Canada Post won't be able to do anything until a scan is showing. Honestly and truly. They *should* be able to tell you if that is a tracking number that is typically scanned by Canada Post however.

I worked with a courier company for years. Sometimes documents literally and truly fall through the cracks. It wasn't uncommon to find documents shipped two years earlier just turning up out of the blue. :( A weekly call to HK post, and CIC while unpleasant might get *something* rolling.

Open a service ticket with Canada Post, get the Ombudsman involved if you aren't getting anywhere. Unfortunately there isnt anything anyone on the forum can do.

Thanks Kettle, I truly appreciate your help and patience..

I've emailed CIC HK again to push them for filing a claim with HK Post. It's very difficult to solve problems when the only way of communication to them is email.

I will continue pushing HK CIC to keep things rolling. I've emailed them that either they file a claim with HK Post to trace down the package, or recognize the package is lost and proceed with options such as report passport lost and then send the new passport to CIC again so that they can re-stamp it.
