Marty, how did you pay for the fees? Online or at the bank? Whats the best way?

My dad just called CIC for me and they said that it's NO PROBLEM. They said to do as Marty said above and write a brief explanation. They also sais that there are a few countries that will not give the original certificate, China is one of them...obviously.

The CIC officer my dad spoke to couldn't give a reason why they might do this, but he speculated it could be because they worry that people would forge the certificates...plausible...but if CIC knows about this, they ought to amend the document checklist for China...

What a relief...but still...very frustrating!!

Cheers and good luck to all

FS

Great Fencesitter. I still will wait for the original as every bit of showing determination will help. Besides, my wife would eat me alive if I send the docs off without the original. Guess that's proof enough that our relationship is genuine. Haha
Yes, I wish they would update their documents. Some forms ask the information double but who knows how things are handled. We should keep in mind that it is a difficult task to find out who is true and who is fake. People do extreme things to get to Canada.
Good luck sending things off.

Mobeyk, I paid everything online, very easy and convenient.

Good luck.

P.S. Marty, could you do me a big favour and send me the cover letter you used???

With pleasure, but how do I do this / How do I send you an e-mail with an attached WORD document ?
I am not familiar how to do it.

However, here it is, you will just have to fill the spaces with your own information. I will try and put in red where you have to place your own information, I do not know how it will look in the end, but here it is:

Missing Original Chinese Police Certificate Explanation Note

Attached is a notarized certified translation copy of my wife’s (her name here) Police Certificate.
I wanted to get the original Police Certificate as well, as per CIC web site requirements, and the Public Notary office in Guangzhou, where the Notarized and certified translation document was produced, told me that they had to retain the original Police Certificate for their files, in order to release the notarized translated copy. They told me that, in China, a notarized copy has the same effect or power, from a legal point of view, as the original and all Notarized and certified translated police certificate documents produced so far were good for the Canadian Immigration of Chinese citizens married with Canadian citizens. I was told that I was the only one asking for the original Police Certificate. I told them that I just wanted to comply with the Canadian CIC requirements.
I called the CIC Call Centre and explained the situation to an officer, called Allan, and he advised me to produce this explanation note of why the original Chinese Police Certificate for my wife is missing.

Your name here,

Address: your address here.
Home phone: your home phone number here.
e-mail: your e-mail address here

Date here.

Hey Marty,

Thanks. From what my wife has told me, nearly all Chinese applicants submit the notarized copy. Very few have any problems, and going by what CIC told you and my dad, it shouldn't be an issue...

I have a 3 day holiday from Monday to Wednesday. During this time my wife and I are going to finalize everything, pay the CAD1,040, and send this bad boy off to Toronto.

Then the waiting game begins, but I have a feeling we won't be waiting very long...

Cheers,
FS

Yes, I think you will be done in no time Fencesitter. My application will be faster with CIC but you will probably get finished faster. Good luck to us all.

Welcome, goodluck to us all. Probably both of you guys will have much shorter time than mine.
Keep us informed.

No worries Marty. you are way ahead. The Interview will be great. I have been in one when I immigrated from Germany to Canada. Mine was rough but I was determined and this is what they want to see, determination and evidence. Take all you have between when you applied and than. Visualize you both as coming out of the interview with a win. You both will get the ok probably this year as they decide fairly quick after the application. ;D

Hi guys...just for your reference. I called CIC at last week for my sponsorship application and the agent said CIC is still processing the application received on Jan 25th, 2012. I sent my application package in Mar 2nd and CIC received it on Mar 5th but not yet process.

That is what is stated on the CIC page: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-fc.asp

Hey Mobeyk,

Thanks for your support. I was thinking exactly the same. If they call me as well (I will be there with her), I will speak truthfully and from my heart. What could go wrong ? I am optimistic as well.
I already sent to HK V.O. a 1'' thick envelope after I returned from China in January with more evidence from August 2011 untill end of January 2012 (plane tickets, telephone call logs from me and her, transcripts of our chats on Yahoo Messenger (YM) or QQ (2 or 3 from each month), bank statements showing the expenses I made while in China (gifts for her), MoneyGram receipts showing money I sent her for supprt, photos from my week spent with her in China. the only thing I forgot was to make copies of passport pages showing entry/exit from China and the chinese visa there, but I will do this for June. I am gathering the same from February to June when I go again in HK to be with her at her interview. We got some typical questions for interview as wel and I sent her those, so we are preparing seriously for that. In the unlikely event she would not pass, then I will appeal their decision. I am determined to get her here to be with me and she wants the same. It is hard enough to see each other every 6 months or so.
Anyway, enough with the pep talk.
Good luck to us all and we keep posted out progress.

Marty,

You'll be fine. Everything will work out. Your relationship is real, so how could you 'fail' at an interview? I would look upon the interview as a 'feet on the table' sort of thing. In other words, bring it on...there's no way they could trip you up, because everything is real...

I don't want to travel to HK for an interview, simply because it will slow things down...but if they do want to interview us, I won't be scared and we will not prepare...what's to prepare? We've been together for years...we know everything about each other...

Anyways, good luck with everything...and the passport copies with stamps is a good tip...I'm going to do that for the trips we took to Thailand and HK / Macau...

Cheers,
FS

Thanks FS. I hope that too. We have been together for almost 1 year and a half now, I know her son, her parents, her brothers and their families, some of her friends. She did not meet any of my relatives as of yet. Only my children via video chat. I suspect this to be a red flag for them. So, that is why I said that we have to be prepared for the interview. Like one of the possible questions is the name of my boss at work, which I never mentioned to her. And some other few things. I requested the CAIPS notes as well this week.
And, after all, HK is such a nice city.
Cheers.

Marty, I have two kids from my former marriage and they have only chatted with my wife over msn. None of my family was able to come to the wedding. What I have done is ask people to post a comment on a picture i put up on facebook and people who know us comment on that one. I am actually for the time line that facebook has just put up as its perfect to print out to show them what I posted and the pictures I uploaded. Another thing I did was I had my two kids 7 and 10 draw pictures from my wife and they of course loved it and my wife was moved to tears. They did write her name on the pictures, one of them has us all as a family with names. If that is not evidence than what is? Would I cheat on my kids just to make a few bucks or my wife break two kids hearts for coming to Canada? At least it gives our case some weight. Well, I think we three should be fine and we will keep each other updated. I targeted April 2013 as i would like to take my Candy girl home after staying for the winter time.
