Hi everyone,

I am a Canadian citizen (residing in Hong Kong) sponsoring my wife to Canada. My wife was born in China in the 70's and moved to Hong Kong when she was 4 years old.

On the CIC website for "Country Specific Requirements", it says "Persons born in the People’s Republic of China since 1996 must submit a notarized copy of the original Medical Certificate of Birth issued by the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China. (If this is not available, you must submit an explanation as to why this document cannot be submitted.)"

She has no China birth certificate because such thing was not available in China when she was born. All she now has are the Hong Kong ID card and the Hong Kong Passport. I wonder if a Certificate of Registered Particulars issued by the Hong Kong Government can be served as an official proof of her birth details when submitting our application to IRCC. Anyone has similar experience?

Thank you.

The requirement is applicable for people born after 1996. Since your wife was born in the 70s, she should be okay.
