Hello everyone,

I have recently passed home schooling from India ( government approved). I got 7 bands in IELTS (not less than 6.5). I have got the offer letter from Durham college in hotel management 2 years course. I have already paid 1st semester fees and have also put $10,000. My agent is asking me to pay full year fees.which I am not able to do due to financial problems.
Please guide me do I i really have to pay full year fees? Or 1 semester fees would work?
Urgent help needed.

you only need to pay full year if you will apply under SDS. for regular stream, it is not required. however, it s highly recommended to pay the full year to show the VO that you do have enough funds for your studies without working.

btw, i got accepted at durham, too.

yes, a lot of applicants got their visas even with just a semester paid. while some SDS applicants got rejected despite having paid 1 year fee. it all depends on the VO if an applicant will get the visa or not. that’s why it is not required to pay full year.

What is difference between SDS and regular stream?

SDS is just a strealined process in the visa application. The applicant is required to have paid a full year of tuition fees as well as a deposit of CAD10,000 GIC in a Canadian accredited financial institution. These simplifies the checking for the VO that the applicant have enough money to fund his/her studies in Canada.

But do take note, SDS does not guarantee automatic visa approval. It only simplifies. So the processing time may be shortened as compared to regular stream.

Sorry for lot of questions.

But being home school student do I have to apply under direct stream or I can just go regular student visa??

no worries, mate :) we are all here to help each other out.

the SDS do have a certain advantage than regular stream. with SDS, you’re not required to show lots of financial documents. only your college receipt for the full year fee paid and the GIC certificate which shows funds of at least CAD10,000.

under regular stream, you are required to provide bank statements, ITRs, payslips, other source of income, as well as proof that these funds are available to you throughout your study duration.

if you could pay 1 year and deposit CAD10,000 fot GIC, i would suggest to go SDS. but then, i will reiterate, both streams, on average, have equal chances in getting a visa.
