Hi Dear members,

I can fullfill the residence time for citizenship application, and planning to apply for the citizenship. However, from May 2013 to now( Dec. 2013), I am living outside of Canada with my husband for the maternity leave and at the same time I keeped a living and mailing address in Canada. My questions are:

1. Which address should I use as the home and mailing adress in the application, the address in Canada or the address at present country?

2. Should I send the application from from present country to the CIC directly by courier?

Any comments are welcomed, and thanks in advance.

Hi

Adress issues have been a subject of several immigration fraud investigations in the past few years.

Realise that just having a property (address in Canada) does not constitute you being in the country, and so does not count towards the residency requirements that you have to meet to be eligible for citizenship. I had to subtract the 8 days I left on holiday from the total count for elegibility.

The 1095 days required is subject to you physically being in Canada for that period. Doing this wrong could result in your citizenship being revoked even after you have received it.

Be very careful with this.

Other than this I do not believe it matters that much which address you use, as long as you have an answer to questions about your not being in Canada at the time of the application, and your intentions to return. Obviously if you were not planning to return in the forseeable future this may present some issues with your application.

See - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/become-eligibility.asp for specific requirements regarding presence in Canada.

Good Luck :)

Hi, NetMecca

Thank you very much for your kindly reply and reminding. I already fullfill the residency requirements physically being in Canada. I am just wondering which address I should use as the home address in the application form.

Thanks again.

Use whatever address you consider to be your permanent domicile. If you intend to return to your Canadian address and consider that your home, use that, even if you are temporarily away.

CIC don't list/ mail out to non Canadian addresses so this is moot.
