Does anyone know the cut off date for receiving updates (I.e. Test invite, RQ, etc) from cic before the holidays break and the time of the same after the break?

1. There is no holiday break as such, Federal offices are closed on Dec 25/26 and January 1st. They maybe under staffed during Xmas week but they are still open and processing applications.

Of course there is such a period. It starts exactly after you leave the government building where you just took the oath and with the citizenship certificate under your arm.
After that ceremony, yes do not expect any mail from CIC.
