HIV positive and worried about my chances of being selected

Insurance firms in my country do not cover HIV related issues. How should I go ahead with Medical insurance in Toronto since the OHIP will kick in only after 3 months? Can I purchase it online? Any suggestions how to go about it? Or should I look for insurance providers only when I land in Toronto?

Just received this letter and now have to go back to the doctor. I don’t know yet what additionnal test they need since we sent everything through e-medical. I'm a bit scared!

Hi,

I was also diagnosed with HIV+, I think those informations will interest you :

AOR : 27/11/2018
médical : 21/11/2018 ( I informed the panel physician that I am HIV +)
* two week's later, he asked me to bring a détailed report from my doctor ( a report wich contain all the information about my médication, VL, CD4 and....)
* 18/01/2019 : I received a mail from The London Regional Medical Office : "they ask me to do Hepatitis B and C test."
Your immigration medical examination result has been received and in order to complete the assessment additional information is required.
Please contact the office of your Panel Physician or any other Panel Physician approved by IRCC, who will need your IME number (indicated above) to access the instructions for the additional tests to be performed.
You have 60 days from the date of this letter to comply with this request.

* 09/05/2019 : I received a furtherance letter from Ottawa : ( sorry for the tradution, the original one was in frensh) : "they ask me to do an
Interferon Gamma Release Assay Known as the IGRA test ( for détection of tuberculosis)

please return to the designated physician who has given you your regulatory medical examination

It is very common to receive furtherance letter(s) in HIV positive cases. Your PP will ask you to get tested for below during your IME process at some point or other.

1. Viral Load
2. CD4 Count
3. Hep B(HBAg) and Hep C (HCV)
4. IGRA ( for Tuberculosis)
5. Specialist Report (Not a test)

Some experienced panel physicians who have handled many HIV cases and are thorough with their PP handbook, will ask you to get tested right at the beginning of the process. But such PPs are rare, at least in India. Others, however, rely on furtherance and communication from CIC/RMO. Eventually results will be submitted for all of the above tests by your PP and you should not be worried.

The only suggestion I would give you is to check with your clinic/PP regularly till the time you have been tested for all of the above. In my personal experience, furtherance letters arrive in your mail usually 2 weeks after the request has already popped up on eMedical.

Hello, do not worry , probably the doctor will ask you to do an IGRA test, or HEP B and C.

That's a regular process. In my case, I was called by the PP and did not receive any mail. You would get some additional tests like Hep B,C, etc. Get them done. Do not worry. Just get them done and let the process continue.

For Express Entry PR applications, it won't be an issue but acceptance is on case to case basis depending on your health conditions.
For work permit, I think rest of the group can throw some light.

Additionally, OHIP mandatorily kicks in after 3 months or it can happen a bit before also? I don't want myself stuck in a situation where my ART meds are getting over and OHIP ain't kicking in.

You may apply and the success of a PR application depends on a case to case basis, but if you are on medication and stable, there are higher chances.

Can’t say about Pb/Chd. But if you could travel to Delhi, Atul Gogia in Gangaram is an expert in the field and a very good doctor.

I think s/he is asking for immigration consultants and not medical practitioners.
My experience with immigration consultants pertaining to HIV cases- They don't add much value. It all depends on the medical practitioner to whom you are going for immigration specific medical tests. If they understand the technicalities and are helpful enough, the process goes well. My MP was very understanding and helpful. Considering my numbers were stable, he said he would give a positive report but in the end, all depends on the Immigration authorities. He is based out of Delhi, if that helps.
