Ottawa asks Canadian employers to use Express Entry system to hire skilled immigrants - June 2015,22

With an intention to address the existing skill shortages in the country, the Ottawa government urges Canadian employers to use Express Entry system for recruiting skilled employees from overseas.
At present, employers in Canada are unable to fill certain jobs, thus the government is asking employers to turn to Express Entry program, the new Canada immigration system that offers an expedited path towards permanent residency.

On 19 June 2015, the minister for Canada citizenship and immigration, Chris Alexander, has delivered this message during an event hosted in Toronto.

He said that if employers are unable to find Canadians to fill the available job vacancies, then they can approach government to apply for Labor Market Impact Assessment and hire individuals under Express Entry system in order to bring immigrants to Canada.

Alexander said that when it is wearisome to go through the process of acquiring a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to verify no Canadian permanent resident or national was available to fill the position; employers would get access to higher caliber of immigrant.

The federal government has launched Express Entry system earlier this year and there exist no cap on the count of applicants who can fill their online profiles with the details regarding education, age, work experience and language skills.

The top ranked applicants who abide by any of the economic skilled programs such as Federal Skilled Trades Program, Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class and a part of Provincial Nominee Program can get into the Express Entry pool. These candidates then obtain an invitation from CIC to apply for Canada PR.

Chris Alexander also said that, after the launch of Express Entry, so far nearly 11,000 invitations were sent to the candidates to apply for Canada PR.

According to the CIC, under the Express Entry system, most of PR applications will be processed within a period of six months.

This program works equivalent to the traditional permanent residence program that takes nearly 12 to 14 months to process the applications. As per the CIC, by 2017, Canada is likely to receive more economic immigrants under Express Entry.
