Hiring a lawyer for your application

Just wondering what your thoughts are on having an immigration lawyer help with your application or if you submitted it by yourself? Is there any big benefit to having a lawyer?

No there isn't. In fact, a lot of time it seems that a lawyer is a detriment to an application if the lawyer isn't completely knowledgeable about the spousal sponsorship process.

If you don't have a complicated case to maneuver, then a lawyer won't be necessary at all. The only time a lawyer may be necessary is if you have a complicated criminal history, or previous issues with Canadian immigration in the past. If your application is straightforward, don't worry about hiring a lawyer.

The application is not hard to fill out by yourself and the cic website helps in case you have any question.

I did my whole application myself. Lawyers most times seems to be money suckers and end up many times not delivering what people pay for(sometimes forget to submit applications, don't communicate well with applicants,etc).

My advice is, do it yourself. You will save money and headache later. You will also receive updates on your application youself rather than someone else receiving it for you and forgetting to update you about it.

You'll get infinitely more valuable advice on this forum. Do it yourself, don't hire a lawyer.

I agree. I've never heard positive stories about people with lawyers/consultants. They don't seem to know the right information or where to get it. I think they are a waste of money and more than likely will cause more problems than they fix. Like a few said, you'll get the same and maybe even better information here and it's free. Most of the people here have either landed themselves or sponsored a spouse rather than just looking it up in a book or on website. Sorry if this sounds harsh but I've heard so many horror stories.

Always good to have a professional to look at it or be involved.. They no so much about the process, mine did anyways. She also knew of procedures in VO for appeal and considerations. Most laypersons would have no idea about these procedures. I guess you would have to pick the right one. Mine was amazing, knowledgeable in every immigration category and she charges fair rates.

That's not true, its been shown time and again on this forum that these so-called "professionals" do not appear to know the immigration system at all. The application process is simple and straightforward. There are many guides and hints and tips on the CIC website. There is also a combined experience and expertise on this forum to rival any "professional".
To hire a lawyer or agent would be a waste of the OP's time and money in my opinion.

I wanted to hire immigration consultant before, but then i found this forum I saved lots of money and in the end all advice i got in here were better than ones i got from consultant. Hiring a lawyer is good if your case is very complicated or if you dont know English much or have lots of money but no time In other case you can just search up the forum and find all you need (or ask questions).
