I have a 4 year open work permit based on my Spouse's study permit. However, my spouse dropped out of school several months ago and I don't think they're going to go back.

Can my spouse switch to a visitor's visa? If so, can I keep my OWP?

Your thoughts\ideas are greatly appreciated.

I was an international student myself and during our orientation, I remember them telling me that they have to inform CIC if an international student drops out or isn't coming to school. I'm not sure if that's true. But if that's the case, it could cause a problem with your work permit since it was given to you because of your spouse's student permit. If she informs CIC and gets a visitor's visa instead, I'm almost sure you'll lose your open work permit. To be sure, call CIC and inquire.

No - you can't keep your OWP if your spouse switches to a visitor. The only reason you have a OWP is because your spouse is a full time student. In fact, you should have already stopped working since your spouse is no longer attending school.

Starting June 1st, CIC has announced they will be policing school attendance a great deal more. So you should expect to be caught.

You need to either stop working or get your employer to obtain an approved LMO so that you can get a closed work permit. I would take action yourself rather than waiting for CIC to take action against you.
