Just when we thought we had things figured out and under control....

My husband and I submitted our sponsorship/PR application (along with an OWP aplication) in Sept 2010. At the time he was on a valid Post Graduate Work Permit (an open work permit), which expired in November; he has been on implied status since that time.

We were confused from the get-go as to whether implied status from an open work permit allows him to change jobs, although we also realized that this would be a grey area and messy at best (how do you prove implied status to a potential employer?) so we figured it was smartest to just call off his job hunt until AIP, which should be in June, we expect.

However, his current employer is currently instigating a lawquit against one of thier suppliers, which will mean that the store may be shutting downa s of next week, for an unknown period of time!

I can't support the two of us for the 5 months we have left before AIP, though we could hit up our parnets to tide us over, that's obvioulsy far from an ideal situation...

So it's suddenly very important for us to figure otu what our options are here. I dont' dare hope that he'll be eligible for EI, but can anyone offer guidance as to how we should proceed?

Your case is very specific and because of the legal issues, you may want to contact an immigration attorney to give you a consultation.

1. Actually since his PGWP cannot be extended, he is not on implied status.
2. Even if he was on implied status you can't change employers.
