Hi, I got work visa stamped, but I am not from visa exempt country, I don't have TRV. Can I enter Canada with only work visa?
Thanks for any reply.

You need a TRV as well.

What exactly do you mean by work visa STAMPED? Work permit is NOT STAMPED on passport. Normally when you apply from a visa required country, your forms include application for trv. When you receive work permit approval, you get two things.

a) A trv stamped/embossed on passport with a visa type of W-1 (W for worker). It is a TRV and does not allow you to work
b) An email confirmation / letter from CIC which is called "letter of introduction" saying your application is approved. The actual work permit document, is issued at the port of entry by CBSA. It has nothing to do with TRAVEL but usually people / air port staff staple it to your passport.

I suspect that you got TRV stamped on passport (which you think is work permit). As explained above, the actual work permit is never given by the embassy.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation, yes, now I understand that I got stamped a trv with w-1. I got that letter too.

Glad to hear i could be of help. Please carry this letter of introduction along with your LMO and job offer at the minimum when you travel. CBSA would take all of these when you land and issue you a work permit.

Oh so you are a spouse of principal applicant. You should be carrying the following in addition to your own Letter of introduction

a) Your spouse's work / study permit's copy
b) Preferably a recent document showing he/she is currently active in his study / job. E.g. if working a recent pay stub or if studying, some transcript / letter from his institute etc. If he/she is on a work visa, a copy of LMO too
c) If principal applicant is a student, then you also need proof of funds enough for a year's expense. Could be cash, bank draft or spousal statement what ever.
d) Proof of relationship
e) Your own profile - perhaps highest educational degree if any - job experience letter if any.

Lastly, you should have address and phone number to give to CBSA and be prepared if needed to call your spouse for confirmation.

I am probably overdoing a little. But you would be much relieved and sail through the process if you have ALL of the things that they might ask for. Normally when you put in all of these documents as soon as asked, CBSA is pretty happy and gets you through quickly.

Thank you so much for all your suggestions, fkl. Definitely I will bring all the documents you mentioned!
