Hi,

I am currently in Ontario on a post graduate work permit till March 22, 2013. One of my friends who owns a company has mentioned that he would offer me a position in his company but I would have to do the groundwork myself for the LMO but he would support me in it.

Could you please guide me about how do I go about with the LMO process.

Thank you

1. For LMO, the employer has to advertise the position on the job bank for 2 weeks, it must be NOC A,B or O category job. Following which the employer will apply to HRSDC for an LMO. They have to demonstrate that there are no Canadians/PRs available for the work and explain that those who have applied for this job other than you don't qualify.

2. If the LMO is approved then you have to apply for a new work permit either at Port of Entry if you don't require a TRV or at Vegreville.

3. This process could take up to 12 weeks for HRSDC.

Hi Inam89, thank you for the information. I have read that for international students on a post graduate work permit such an advertisement is not required.

Yes, if your current job falls in NOC O,A,B category.

As an international student on PGWP, you do not need any LMO for any category.

If I apply for LMO close to the time my work permit is about to expire and I know the LMO processing takes about 4 months, can I work under an implied status for the 4 months?

No. Even a positive LMO (which now you must attached with work permit application) is not a surety for work permit approval.

Only in dreams. LMO is not a guarantee/surety for a work permit.

Correct. An approved LMO does not guarantee the work permit will be approved.
