My wife is a canadian citizen, I am English, we have been married for 1 year and we are currently residing in England. We are now deciding to move to canada and are just starting the process. My wife has heard that it is possible to get a work visa then apply for pr inland whilst still keeping the ability to work through the work visa...

is this possible at all?

I was also wondering what peoples opinions are on the best method for us to apply for pr for me in Canada, I have a degree and it is possible for me to get a job offer from a company.

thanks for your time. :D

Your fastest option in terms of getting permanent resident status (for living in Canada long term with your wife) is for her to sponsor you. As a citizen, she can start that process while you're still in England, and even if you decide to live in Canada during part of the process, it's still fastest (and best) to have the application processed through London, not in Canada.

If you decide to move to Canada before the sponsorship application is complete, the standard rules for working in Canada as a foreigner apply. You'd usually need a labour market opinion and a job offer from a Canadian company:

There's nothing to prevent you visiting or working in Canada while your PR application is in progress, as long as you abide by the normal rules for visitors / foreign workers.

I'd advise against getting caught up with the inland PR process, it takes longer and limits your ability to travel outside of Canada.

matthewc is right. It is much faster to apply out-bound (through London) with your spouse as a sponsor. 2-8 months at the London office, as opposed to 10 - 14 months inland through Vegreville. Inland you cannot leave the country, Outland you can go back and forth between Canada and the UK.
Goodluck!

thanks alot they really helped reading, its such a nerve-racking process, i dont think that they are explained well enough and i think it is far too hit and miss, considering its so expensive!

hope i get someone in a good mood on the day!
