Hi everyone,

A few months after I got my first work permit (WP 1), my employer applied for an amendment due to a change in their legal entity name.

My second work permit (WP 2) was issued before WP 1 expired. All employment conditions, job duties, and location stayed exactly the same—only the employer entity name changed.

When listing my work/immigration history on temporary resident forms, should I:

1. List this as two separate entries (one for each permit)?

2. List it as one continuous entry?

Also, does this amendment/re-issuance officially count under the "extension" category?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Not a consultant, just my take. List it as two separate entries since you technically had two different work permits with two different employer names on them. Even though everything else stayed the same, IRCC wants to see what matches your actual documents. If you list one continuous entry but your permits show different employer names, it could raise unnecessary questions.

For the "extension" question, an amendment due to employer name change is technically a new permit issuance, not an extension. But the distinction mostly matters for form accuracy. Just make sure your dates don't overlap or leave gaps between the two entries, and add a brief note that WP 2 was issued due to an employer legal entity name change. That way the officer sees the full picture without having to guess.
