Hello hello!

So my husband and I currently have our application in review in Amman, Jordan. The sponsorship was already approved (in April) and now we're just waiting for his PR.

If it were possible to get a TRV for him to come to Canada, I have a couple of questions about how that would affect our application.
- Would we have to change the application from outland to inland? If so, would we have to start again so to speak? Would it add delays to our application?
- Once he arrives with a TRV, how easy/possible is it to extend that visa until his PR is granted? Would we be able to get an OWP?
- What happens if they call him for an interview?

I don't know how all of this would work! Help?

If you want to switch from outland to inland, then you must withdraw the outland application and submit a brand new inland application. Yes - you would be starting again from scratch in terms of processing times. I suppose you can say it will add delays to your application because all of the time spent processing your outland application will be lost.

He will only qualify for an OWP if you withdraw the outland application and apply inland. And he will only get the OWP once your inland application has first stage approval which is currently taking 13 months to complete from the time the inland application is submitted.

If an interview is called and your application is still outland, it will be held in Jordan. If you have switched to inland, then it will be held in Canada.

Thanks so much!

So my other question would be, do we HAVE to change the application from outland to inland if we were to go to Canada?

No - absolutely not. You can stick with outland.

Your outland application will not be affected even if your husband visits Canada.

The only problem is, IF they ask him for an interview, he will have to go back to Jordan for the interview. I don't know how common interviews are for people going through your visa office - maybe you could ask on a thread there.

He cannot get an OWP.

He can extend his visitor's status in Canada - you apply online, it takes about 4 weeks, and costs 100$. You have to show proof that you have enough funds for his stay.

Thank you so much! Is there a maximum time period that he would be allowed to extend his stay?

I don't know if there is a limit on how long an extension you can ask, but I have heard of people asking for 2 years.

That said, they may or may not give you the time you ask - some people ask for 2 years and get 1 year, some people ask for 1 year and get 5 months... CIC decides. (I asked for 1 year and I got it.) But if you get a shorter time than you need, you can always apply for another extension.
