Hey fellow applicants,
I am writing as I need help with some medical trouble.

I applied for PR and a new OWP in Sep 2013.
My current work permit and Healthcare card ran out in Nov 2013.
This gave me implied status but no access to health care.

I unexpectedly had to go to the emergency unit at our local hospital today and was told I have to show a new medicare card within 30 days or pay $900 for the costs.
Going by the current CIC timescale I wont hear anything from them for at least two months.

Is there a way to receive a new medicare card before I receive AIP or get a new work permit?

Is there a way to get backpaid for any medical costs during these times?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help out.

Unfortunately asnwer to both is no. Even after you get AIP, you then still need to wait an additional 3 months of waiting period before you are eligible. You will need to pay full cost out of pocket. You might want to consider getting a private travel medical policy while you're waiting. They can cost as low as around $50 per month.

The Régie does not reimburse you for healthcare you receive during the waiting period.
